We Play Strong

A review of how the WSL 2 teams faired in the SSE Women’s FA Cup

WSL2 Review

The WSL 2 teams had a break from the league action last weekend and instead had ties in the SSE Women’s FA Cup to play. Below is how the WSL 2 teams got on.

Bottom of the table, Watford Ladies FC travelled away for a tough tie at high-flying WSL 1 side Liverpool Ladies FC. The result was a 5-0 thrashing for Watford meaning their search for their first win of the season continues.

Second bottom Aston Villa Ladies FC entertain Middlesbrough Ladies FC. They comfortably won 4-0 and will be hoping they can put together a nice cup run to distract from their poor start to the WSL 2  season.

Brighton And Hove Albion had a very tough draw as they took on WSL 1 leaders Manchester City Ladies at Culver Road. Manchester City won the game 2-0 but Albion Women gave a good account of themselves considering the recent form of the WSL 1 leaders.

Oxford Untied Women made the long journey to Cardiff City LFC. The game ended in a 0-0 draw and means the two teams will need a replay to decide who goes into the hat for the next round of the cup.

There was a couple of all WSL 2 ties. The first saw Durham Women FC entertain Sheffield Ladies FC. The game finished with Durham winning 2-1 and advancing onto the next round.

The second Tottenham Hotspur Ladies FC entertain leaders Doncaster Rovers Belles. The game saw Doncaster win 3-0. This meant Tottenham’s hopes of putting together a cup run to distract from their league woes is over.

London Bees like Brighton got an a exciting but tricky tie when they hosted Chelsea Ladies FC. Unfortunately, The Bees got quite a hammering losing 10-0. This certainly won’t help the confidence of London Bees squad with them only being four points above second bottom, Aston Villa.

The last of the WSL 2 sides to play was Millwall Lionesses who had a home draw against Coventry United Ladies FC. The Lionesses won comfortably 4-1 and easily booked their place in the hat for the next round of the cup.

This means that four WSL 2 sides will definitely be in the hat for the next round of the SSE Women’s FA Cup and one more in Oxford awaiting a reply to see if they will make into the hat.  One thing is for sure all the WSL 2 that are still in the competitions will be hoping to make it through the next round as it only means the quarter finals would be one round away.
